2,905. A Nazir Who Learns He Was Impure

Hilchos Nezirus 6:16

Let’s say that a nazir shaved in purity (i.e., upon completing his nezirus) only to learn that he contracted ritual impurity during his nezirus. If he was rendered unclean by a known source of impurity, then all the days of his nezirus are voided. He must bring the impurity offering, shave for impurity, count another nezirus period, and then bring the purity offerings. If he was rendered unclean by an unknown source of impurity, he doesn’t lose any days. This law was transmitted via our oral tradition.

Hilchos Nezirus 6:17

If the nazir found that he was unclean, from either a known or an unknown source of impurity, before the blood of one of his offerings was sprinkled on him, his whole nezirus is voided. If he finds this out after the blood of one of his offerings was sprinkled on him, then impurity from an unknown source doesn’t cost him any days even though he hasn’t yet shaved.
