2,892. A Nazir Removing Hair

Hilchos Nezirus 5:11

If a nazir cuts off even one hair with a razor or a scissor, he is liable to the penalty of lashes so long as he cut it from its roots in the manner of a razor. Similarly, if he plucks a hair by hand, he is liable to lashes. This applies both to a nazir whose hair is cut and to the one who cuts it, as per Numbers 6:5, “A razor shall not pass over his head.” If he left enough of the hair so that its tip can be bent to touch its root, he's not lashed because this isn’t in the manner of a razor.

Hilchos Nezirus 5:12

If a nazir removed his hair using a depilatory, he’s not liable to lashes, though he has nullified the performance of a positive mitzvah, i.e., Numbers 6:5: “He shall let the growth of his head’s hair grow.”
