2,885. Observing Part of One's Nezirus Period

Hilchos Nezirus 4:14

Pursuant to the previous halacha, let’s say that someone vowed to be a nazir for 30 days. For ten days he acted as if his vow was permitted, and then for 20 days he observed the nazirite prohibitions. After day 30, he consulted a scholar, who told him that he was prohibited. In such a case, he must observe ten days from the time he consulted the scholar to make up for the ten days he acted as if he was permitted. If he drinks wine, shaves, or renders himself unclean through corpse impurity during this time, he is given stripes for acting rebelliously.

Hilchos Nezirus 4:15

The previous halacha applies to one who is a nazir for a short time; if one made a vow for a longer period, it’s enough for him to observe nezirus for 30 days. This is so even if he violated his extended period of nezirus for his whole life. If he never observes any of the nazirite prohibitions, his requests for absolution are ignored. (See next halacha.)
