2,883. The Day Moshiach Comes

Hilchos Nezirus 4:10

If someone declares that he will be a nazir the day before he dies, he may never drink wine, be rendered unclean through corpse impurity or shave.

Hilchos Nezirus 4:11

Let’s say that someone says that he’ll be a nazir on the day Moshiach comes. If he made the vow on a weekday, he is a nazir forever. If he made the vow on Shabbos or yom tov, he is permitted on that Shabbos or yom tov, after which he is a nazir forever. The reason for this is because there’s a doubt as to whether Moshiach could come on Shabbos or yom tov. Because of this doubt, the vow does not take effect on the day he made it. As we have discussed, when there’s a question as to whether nezirus applies, we act leniently. The same question still applies on the following Shabbos, but it doesn’t overturn the nezirus that took effect during the week.
