Chapter 3
(א) וְאֵ֛לֶּה תּוֹלְדֹ֥ת אַהֲרֹ֖ן וּמֹשֶׁ֑ה בְּי֗וֹם דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּהַ֥ר סִינָֽי׃ (ב) וְאֵ֛לֶּה שְׁמ֥וֹת בְּֽנֵי־אַהֲרֹ֖ן הַבְּכֹ֣ר ׀ נָדָ֑ב וַאֲבִיה֕וּא אֶלְעָזָ֖ר וְאִיתָמָֽר׃ (ג) אֵ֗לֶּה שְׁמוֹת֙ בְּנֵ֣י אַהֲרֹ֔ן הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים הַמְּשֻׁחִ֑ים אֲשֶׁר־מִלֵּ֥א יָדָ֖ם לְכַהֵֽן׃ (ד) וַיָּ֣מׇת נָדָ֣ב וַאֲבִיה֣וּא לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֡ה בְּֽהַקְרִבָם֩ אֵ֨שׁ זָרָ֜ה לִפְנֵ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ בְּמִדְבַּ֣ר סִינַ֔י וּבָנִ֖ים לֹא־הָי֣וּ לָהֶ֑ם וַיְכַהֵ֤ן אֶלְעָזָר֙ וְאִ֣יתָמָ֔ר עַל־פְּנֵ֖י אַהֲרֹ֥ן אֲבִיהֶֽם׃ {פ}
(א) וְאִלֵּין תּוּלְדַת אַהֲרֹן וּמשֶׁה בְּיוֹמָא דְּמַלִּיל יְיָ עִם משֶׁה בְּטוּרָא דְסִינָי: (ב) וְאִלֵּין שְׁמָהַת בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן בּוּכְרָא נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא אֶלְעָזָר וְאִיתָמָר: (ג) אִלֵּין שְׁמָהַת בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן כָּהֲנַיָּא דְּאִתְרַבִּיאוּ דִּי אִתְקָרַב קֻרְבַּנְהוֹן לְשַׁמָּשָׁא: (ד) וּמִית נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא קֳדָם יְיָ בְּקָרוֹבֵיהוֹן אֶשָּׁתָא נוּכְרֵיתָא קֳדָם יְיָ בְּמַדְבְּרָא דְסִינַי וּבְנִין לָא הֲווֹ לְהוֹן וְשַׁמֵּשׁ אֶלְעָזָר וְאִיתָמָר עַל אַפֵּי אַהֲרֹן אֲבוּהוֹן:
1. These are the generations of Aharon and Moshe on the day that Hashem spoke with Moshe on Mount Sinai. 2. And these are the names of Aharon’s sons: the first-born – Nadav – and Avihu, Elazar and Isamar. 3. These are the names of Aharon’s sons, the priests who were elevated[1] whose offering was brought[2] to officiate. 4. And Nadav and Avihu died before Hashem in their bringing strange fire before Hashem in the Sinai wilderness, and they didn’t have (any) sons. And Elazar and Isamar officiated in front of Aharon, their father.
(ה) וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (ו) הַקְרֵב֙ אֶת־מַטֵּ֣ה לֵוִ֔י וְהַֽעֲמַדְתָּ֣ אֹת֔וֹ לִפְנֵ֖י אַהֲרֹ֣ן הַכֹּהֵ֑ן וְשֵׁרְת֖וּ אֹתֽוֹ׃ (ז) וְשָׁמְר֣וּ אֶת־מִשְׁמַרְתּ֗וֹ וְאֶת־מִשְׁמֶ֙רֶת֙ כׇּל־הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה לִפְנֵ֖י אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד לַעֲבֹ֖ד אֶת־עֲבֹדַ֥ת הַמִּשְׁכָּֽן׃ (ח) וְשָׁמְר֗וּ אֶֽת־כׇּל־כְּלֵי֙ אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וְאֶת־מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לַעֲבֹ֖ד אֶת־עֲבֹדַ֥ת הַמִּשְׁכָּֽן׃ (ט) וְנָתַתָּה֙ אֶת־הַלְוִיִּ֔ם לְאַהֲרֹ֖ן וּלְבָנָ֑יו נְתוּנִ֨ם נְתוּנִ֥ם הֵ֙מָּה֙ ל֔וֹ מֵאֵ֖ת בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (י) וְאֶת־אַהֲרֹ֤ן וְאֶת־בָּנָיו֙ תִּפְקֹ֔ד וְשָׁמְר֖וּ אֶת־כְּהֻנָּתָ֑ם וְהַזָּ֥ר הַקָּרֵ֖ב יוּמָֽת׃ {פ}
(ה) וּמַלִּיל יְיָ עִם משֶׁה לְמֵימָר: (ו) קָרֵב יָת שִׁבְטָא דְלֵוִי וּתְקֵים יָתֵיהּ קֳדָם אַהֲרֹן כַּהֲנָא וִישַׁמְּשׁוּן יָתֵיהּ: (ז) וְיִטְּרוּן יָת מַטַּרְתֵּיהּ וְיָת מַטְּרַת כָּל כְּנִשְׁתָּא קֳדָם מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא לְמִפְלַח יָת פָּלְחַן מַשְׁכְּנָא: (ח) וְיִטְּרוּן יָת כָּל מָאנֵי מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא וְיָת מַטְּרַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמִפְלַח יָת פָּלְחַן מַשְׁכְּנָא: (ט) וְתִתֵּן יָת לֵוָאֵי לְאַהֲרֹן וְלִבְנוֹהִי מְסִירִין יְהִיבִין אִנּוּן לֵיהּ מִן בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: (י) וְיָת אַהֲרֹן וְיָת בְּנוֹהִי תְּמַנֵּי וְיִטְּרוּן יָת כְּהֻנַּתְהוֹן וְחִלּוֹנַי דְּיִקְרַב יִתְקְטָל:
5. Hashem spoke with Moshe, saying: 6. Bring near the tribe of Levi and stand it before Aharon the priest and they will serve him. 7. They shall keep his charge and the charge of the entire congregation before the Tent of Meeting, to perform the work of the Tabernacle. 8. They shall watch all the utensils of the Tent of Meeting and the charge of the children of Israel, to perform the work of the Tabernacle. 9. You shall give the Levites to Aharon and to his sons; they are handed over, given[3] to him from the children of Israel. 10. And Aharon and his sons you shall appoint and they shall guard their priesthood, and a secular person who draws near will be executed.
(יא) וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (יב) וַאֲנִ֞י הִנֵּ֧ה לָקַ֣חְתִּי אֶת־הַלְוִיִּ֗ם מִתּוֹךְ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל תַּ֧חַת כׇּל־בְּכ֛וֹר פֶּ֥טֶר רֶ֖חֶם מִבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְהָ֥יוּ לִ֖י הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ (יג) כִּ֣י לִי֮ כׇּל־בְּכוֹר֒ בְּיוֹם֩ הַכֹּתִ֨י כׇל־בְּכ֜וֹר בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֗יִם הִקְדַּ֨שְׁתִּי לִ֤י כׇל־בְּכוֹר֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֵאָדָ֖ם עַד־בְּהֵמָ֑ה לִ֥י יִהְי֖וּ אֲנִ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃ {פ}
(יא) וּמַלִּיל יְיָ עִם משֶׁה לְמֵימָר: (יב) וַאֲנָא הָא קָרֵבִית יָת לֵוָאֵי מִגּוֹ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל חֲלַף כָּל בּוּכְרָא פָּתַח וַלְדָּא מִבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וִיהוֹן מְשַׁמְּשִׁין קֳדָמַי לֵוָאֵי: (יג) אֲרֵי דִילִי כָּל בּוּכְרָא בְּיוֹמָא דִקְטָלִית כָּל בּוּכְרָא בְּאַרְעָא דְמִצְרַיִם אַקְדֵּשִׁית קֳדָמַי כָּל בּוּכְרָא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאֱנָשָׁא עַד בְּעִירָא דִּילִי יְהוֹן אֲנָא יְיָ:
11. Hashem spoke with Moshe, saying: 12. And I, behold, I brought the Levites close[4] from among the children of Israel in lieu of every first-born that opens the womb from the children of Israel; the Levites will serve before Me.[5] 13. Because every first-born is Mine. On the day I killed[6] every first-born in the land of Egypt, I consecrated to Myself every first-born in Israel from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am Hashem.
