Chapter 1
(א) וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר יְהֹוָ֧ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֛ה בְּמִדְבַּ֥ר סִינַ֖י בְּאֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד בְּאֶחָד֩ לַחֹ֨דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֜י בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הַשֵּׁנִ֗ית לְצֵאתָ֛ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם לֵאמֹֽר׃ (ב) שְׂא֗וּ אֶת־רֹאשׁ֙ כׇּל־עֲדַ֣ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמ֔וֹת כׇּל־זָכָ֖ר לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָֽם׃ (ג) מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כׇּל־יֹצֵ֥א צָבָ֖א בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל תִּפְקְד֥וּ אֹתָ֛ם לְצִבְאֹתָ֖ם אַתָּ֥ה וְאַהֲרֹֽן׃ (ד) וְאִתְּכֶ֣ם יִהְי֔וּ אִ֥ישׁ אִ֖ישׁ לַמַּטֶּ֑ה אִ֛ישׁ רֹ֥אשׁ לְבֵית־אֲבֹתָ֖יו הֽוּא׃ (ה) וְאֵ֙לֶּה֙ שְׁמ֣וֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַֽעַמְד֖וּ אִתְּכֶ֑ם לִרְאוּבֵ֕ן אֱלִיצ֖וּר בֶּן־שְׁדֵיאֽוּר׃ (ו) לְשִׁמְע֕וֹן שְׁלֻמִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־צוּרִֽישַׁדָּֽי׃ (ז) לִֽיהוּדָ֕ה נַחְשׁ֖וֹן בֶּן־עַמִּינָדָֽב׃ (ח) לְיִ֨שָּׂשכָ֔ר נְתַנְאֵ֖ל בֶּן־צוּעָֽר׃ (ט) לִזְבוּלֻ֕ן אֱלִיאָ֖ב בֶּן־חֵלֹֽן׃ (י) לִבְנֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לְאֶפְרַ֕יִם אֱלִישָׁמָ֖ע בֶּן־עַמִּיה֑וּד לִמְנַשֶּׁ֕ה גַּמְלִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־פְּדָהצֽוּר׃ (יא) לְבִ֨נְיָמִ֔ן אֲבִידָ֖ן בֶּן־גִּדְעֹנִֽי׃ (יב) לְדָ֕ן אֲחִיעֶ֖זֶר בֶּן־עַמִּֽישַׁדָּֽי׃ (יג) לְאָשֵׁ֕ר פַּגְעִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן־עׇכְרָֽן׃ (יד) לְגָ֕ד אֶלְיָסָ֖ף בֶּן־דְּעוּאֵֽל׃ (טו) לְנַ֨פְתָּלִ֔י אֲחִירַ֖ע בֶּן־עֵינָֽן׃ (טז) אֵ֚לֶּה קריאי [קְרוּאֵ֣י] הָעֵדָ֔ה נְשִׂיאֵ֖י מַטּ֣וֹת אֲבוֹתָ֑ם רָאשֵׁ֛י אַלְפֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הֵֽם׃ (יז) וַיִּקַּ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֖ה וְאַהֲרֹ֑ן אֵ֚ת הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִקְּב֖וּ בְּשֵׁמֽוֹת: (יח) וְאֵ֨ת כׇּל־הָעֵדָ֜ה הִקְהִ֗ילוּ בְּאֶחָד֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י וַיִּתְיַֽלְד֥וּ עַל־מִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמ֗וֹת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֥ים שָׁנָ֛ה וָמַ֖עְלָה לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָֽם׃ (יט) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַֽיִּפְקְדֵ֖ם בְּמִדְבַּ֥ר סִינָֽי׃ {ס}
(א) וּמַלִּיל יְיָ עִם משֶׁה בְּמַדְבְּרָא דְסִינַי בְּמַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא בְּחַד לְיַרְחָא תִנְיָנָא בְּשַׁתָּא תִנְיֵתָא לְמִפַּקְהוֹן מֵאַרְעָא דְמִצְרַיִם לְמֵימָר: (ב) קַבִּילוּ יָת חֻשְׁבַּן כָּל כְּנִשְׁתָּא דִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְזַרְעֲיַתְהוֹן לְבֵית אֲבָהַתְהוֹן בְּמִנְיַן שְׁמָהָן כָּל דְּכוּרָא לְגֻלְגְּלַתְהוֹן: (ג) מִבַּר עַשְׂרִין שְׁנִין וּלְעֵלָּא כָּל נָפֵק חֵילָא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל תִּמְנוּן יָתְהוֹן לְחֵילֵיהוֹן אַתְּ וְאַהֲרֹן: (ד) וְעִמְּכוֹן יְהוֹן גַּבְרָא גַבְרָא לְשִׁבְטָא גְּבַר רֵישׁ לְבֵית אֲבָהָתוֹהִי הוּא: (ה) וְאִלֵּין שְׁמָהַת גֻּבְרַיָּא דִּי יְקוּמוּן עִמְּכוֹן לִרְאוּבֵן אֱלִיצוּר בַּר שְׁדֵיאוּר: (ו) לְשִׁמְעוֹן שְׁלֻמִיאֵל בַּר צוּרִישַׁדָּי: (ז) לִיהוּדָה נַחְשׁוֹן בַּר עַמִּינָדָב: (ח) לְיִשָּׂשכָר נְתַנְאֵל בַּר צוּעָר: (ט) לִזְבוּלֻן אֱלִיאָב בַּר חֵלֹּן: (י) לִבְנֵי יוֹסֵף לְאֶפְרַיִם אֱלִישָׁמָע בַּר עַמִּיהוּד לִמְנַשֶּׁה גַּמְלִיאֵל בַּר פְּדָהצוּר: (יא) לְבִנְיָמִן אֲבִידָן בַּר גִּדְעֹנִי: (יב) לְדָן אֲחִיעֶזֶר בַּר עַמִּישַׁדָּי: (יג) לְאָשֵׁר פַּגְעִיאֵל בַּר עָכְרָן: (יד) לְגָד אֶלְיָסָף בַּר דְּעוּאֵל: (טו) לְנַפְתָּלִי אֲחִירַע בַּר עֵינָן: (טז) אִלֵּין מְעַרְעֵי כְנִשְׁתָּא רַבְרְבֵי שִׁבְטֵי אֲבָהַתְהוֹן רֵישֵׁי אַלְפַיָּא דְיִשְׂרָאֵל אִנּוּן: (יז) וּנְסֵב משֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן יָת גֻּבְרַיָּא הָאִלֵּין דִּי אִתְפָּרָשׁוּ בִּשְׁמָהָן: (יח) וְיָת כָּל כְּנִשְׁתָּא אַכְנָשׁוּ בְּחַד לְיַרְחָא תִנְיָנָא וְאִתְיַחֲסוּ עַל זַרְעֲיַתְהוֹן לְבֵית אֲבָהַתְהוֹן בְּמִנְיַן שְׁמָהָן מִבַּר עַשְׂרִין שְׁנִין וּלְעֵלָּא לְגֻלְגְּלַתְהוֹן: (יט) כְּמָא דִי פַקֵּיד יְיָ יָת משֶׁה וּמְנִנּוּן בְּמַדְבְּרָא דְסִינָי:
1. Hashem spoke with Moshe in the Sinai wilderness, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first (day) of the second month in the second year following their exodus from the land of Egypt, saying: 2. Acquire the accounting[1] of the entire congregation of the children of Israel according to their families by their fathers’ house(s), in the number of names of every male by their polls. 3. From the age of 20 years and up, all who (are able to) go out in the army in Israel, you and Aharon shall count them by their hosts. 4. With you shall be a man[2] from each tribe, a man who is head of his fathers’ house. 5. And these are the names of the men who will stand with you: from Reuven, Elitzur son of Sh’deiur. 6. From Shimon, Sh’lumiel son of Tzurishadai. 7. From Yehuda, Nachshon son of Aminadav. 8. From Yisachar, N’saneil son of Tzuar. 9. From Zevulun, Eliav son of Cheilon. 10. From the sons of Yoseif: from Efraim, Elishama son of Amihud; from Menashe, Gamliel son of P’dahtzur. 11. From Binyamin, Avidan son of Gidoni. 12. From Dan, Achiezer son of Amishadai. 13. From Asher, Pagiel son of Achran. 14. From Gad, Elyasaf son of D’ueil. 15. From Naftali, Achira son of Einan. 16. These are those summoned of the assembly, the leaders[3] of the tribes of their fathers; they are the heads of the thousands of Israel. 17. Moshe and Aharon took these men, who were designated by their names, 18. and they gathered the entire congregation on the first (day) of the second month, and they demonstrated their genealogies[4] according to their families by their fathers' houses in the number of names, from the age of 20 years and up, according to their heads. 19. As Hashem commanded Moshe, he counted them in the Sinai wilderness.
