2,826. On the Day He Hears of It

Hilchos Nedarim 11:26

If a betrothed naarah makes a vow but neither her father nor her fiancé hears of it until after she reaches adulthood or she became like “an orphan in her father’s lifetime,” then her vow stands and her fiancé can’t annul it. This is because she has left her father’s domain and he must annul her vows with the fiancé, but she hasn’t yet entered the fiancé’s domain.

Hilchos Nedarim 12:1

A father can only nullify his daughter's vows and oaths on the day he hears of them, as per Numbers 30:6 (“if her father restrained her on the day that he heard”). A husband, on the other hand, can only annul vows and oaths that involve self-affliction or that affect the marriage, such as if she made an oath or a vow not to wear makeup jewelry, as per Numbers 30:17, “(things that are) between a man and his wife.”
