834. Wearing a Kittel

118:9 The cups for the wine must be whole, without any defect, washed thoroughly, and at least a revi'is (about 3.3 ounces) in volume. (The niceness of the cups is preferable but one still fulfills the mitzvah if he uses cups with defects - Mishnah Brurah 183:10.)

118:10 Our custom is for a man to wear his kittel (a white linen robe), which should be prepared while it is still day. A mourner does not wear a kittel but he is still obligated to lean. (A mourner should lean with a slight change from the normal fashion; if he chooses to wear the kittel, we do not prevent him from doing so - MB 472:13.) However, if one has not started the mourning period before yom tov, such as if the deceased was buried on yom tov, then the practice is not to lean. He still says Hallel because Hallel is an obligation.
