“I Told You Before, Ah, You Can’t Do That”
G-d reiterates that the Jews are not permitted to emulate the deeds of other nations. There's a reason He's driving the Canaanite nations out of Israel and this is it. He's giving the Jews the land and they have to be worthy of it.
One thing they have to do to remain pure is to refrain from eating things that G-d has identified as non-kosher. Another is avoiding sorcery. Getting involved in the fortune-telling business carries the death penalty.
