2,801. Vowing Against the Produce of a Particular Year

Hilchos Nedarim 9:12

If someone vows not to eat the produce of a certain year, he may not eat any produce of that year, though he may eat kids, lambs, milk, eggs and chicks. However, if he vowed not to eat the products of a particular year, then he may not eat any of these things. If someone vows not to eat summer fruits, he is only prohibited figs.

Hilchos Nedarim 9:13

In all of the foregoing cases, and in those like them, the general rule is this: when it comes to vows, we follow intention of the words as used by people in that time, place and language. Following this rule, we determine that the one who vowed is forbidden A, B and C, and permitted X, Y and Z.
