2,763. “I Am Prohibited to You and You Are Prohibited to Me”
Hilchos Nedarim 5:1
If Reuven tells Shimon, “I am like a dedication to you,” or “You are prohibited to benefit from me,” then Shimon may not benefit from Reuven. If he violates and benefits from him, he isn’t liable to the penalty of lashes because Shimon didn’t express the vow. Reuven may benefit from Shimon because he didn’t prohibit this.
Hilchos Nedarim 5:2
If Reuven tells Shimon, "You are like a dedication to me,” or “I am prohibited to benefit from you,” then Reuven may not benefit from Shimon. If he does, he is liable to lashes for profaning his word. Shimon may benefit from Reuven. If he says, “I am like a dedication to you and you are like a dedication to me,” or “I am prohibited to benefit from you and you are prohibited to benefit from me,” then they are prohibited to benefit from one another. The same is true in all comparable cases.
