Chapter 41

 (א) וַיְהִ֕י מִקֵּ֖ץ שְׁנָתַ֣יִם יָמִ֑ים וּפַרְעֹ֣ה חֹלֵ֔ם וְהִנֵּ֖ה עֹמֵ֥ד עַל־הַיְאֹֽר׃ (ב) וְהִנֵּ֣ה מִן־הַיְאֹ֗ר עֹלֹת֙ שֶׁ֣בַע פָּר֔וֹת יְפ֥וֹת מַרְאֶ֖ה וּבְרִיאֹ֣ת בָּשָׂ֑ר וַתִּרְעֶ֖ינָה בָּאָֽחוּ׃ (ג) וְהִנֵּ֞ה שֶׁ֧בַע פָּר֣וֹת אֲחֵר֗וֹת עֹל֤וֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶן֙ מִן־הַיְאֹ֔ר רָע֥וֹת מַרְאֶ֖ה וְדַקּ֣וֹת בָּשָׂ֑ר וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֛דְנָה אֵ֥צֶל הַפָּר֖וֹת עַל־שְׂפַ֥ת הַיְאֹֽר׃ (ד) וַתֹּאכַ֣לְנָה הַפָּר֗וֹת רָע֤וֹת הַמַּרְאֶה֙ וְדַקֹּ֣ת הַבָּשָׂ֔ר אֵ֚ת שֶׁ֣בַע הַפָּר֔וֹת יְפֹ֥ת הַמַּרְאֶ֖ה וְהַבְּרִיאֹ֑ת וַיִּיקַ֖ץ פַּרְעֹֽה׃ (ה) וַיִּישָׁ֕ן וַֽיַּחֲלֹ֖ם שֵׁנִ֑ית וְהִנֵּ֣ה ׀ שֶׁ֣בַע שִׁבֳּלִ֗ים עֹל֛וֹת בְּקָנֶ֥ה אֶחָ֖ד בְּרִיא֥וֹת וְטֹבֽוֹת׃ (ו) וְהִנֵּה֙ שֶׁ֣בַע שִׁבֳּלִ֔ים דַּקּ֖וֹת וּשְׁדוּפֹ֣ת קָדִ֑ים צֹמְח֖וֹת אַחֲרֵיהֶֽן׃ (ז) וַתִּבְלַ֙עְנָה֙ הַשִּׁבֳּלִ֣ים הַדַּקּ֔וֹת אֵ֚ת שֶׁ֣בַע הַֽשִּׁבֳּלִ֔ים הַבְּרִיא֖וֹת וְהַמְּלֵא֑וֹת וַיִּיקַ֥ץ פַּרְעֹ֖ה וְהִנֵּ֥ה חֲלֽוֹם׃ (ח) וַיְהִ֤י בַבֹּ֙קֶר֙ וַתִּפָּ֣עֶם רוּח֔וֹ וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח וַיִּקְרָ֛א אֶת־כׇּל־חַרְטֻמֵּ֥י מִצְרַ֖יִם וְאֶת־כׇּל־חֲכָמֶ֑יהָ וַיְסַפֵּ֨ר פַּרְעֹ֤ה לָהֶם֙ אֶת־חֲלֹמ֔וֹ וְאֵין־פּוֹתֵ֥ר אוֹתָ֖ם לְפַרְעֹֽה׃ )ט) וַיְדַבֵּר֙ שַׂ֣ר הַמַּשְׁקִ֔ים אֶת־פַּרְעֹ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר אֶת־חֲטָאַ֕י אֲנִ֖י מַזְכִּ֥יר הַיּֽוֹם׃ (י) פַּרְעֹ֖ה קָצַ֣ף עַל־עֲבָדָ֑יו וַיִּתֵּ֨ן אֹתִ֜י בְּמִשְׁמַ֗ר בֵּ֚ית שַׂ֣ר הַטַּבָּחִ֔ים אֹתִ֕י וְאֵ֖ת שַׂ֥ר הָאֹפִֽים׃ (יא) וַנַּֽחַלְמָ֥ה חֲל֛וֹם בְּלַ֥יְלָה אֶחָ֖ד אֲנִ֣י וָה֑וּא אִ֛ישׁ כְּפִתְר֥וֹן חֲלֹמ֖וֹ חָלָֽמְנוּ׃ (יב) וְשָׁ֨ם אִתָּ֜נוּ נַ֣עַר עִבְרִ֗י עֶ֚בֶד לְשַׂ֣ר הַטַּבָּחִ֔ים וַ֨נְּסַפֶּר־ל֔וֹ וַיִּפְתׇּר־לָ֖נוּ אֶת־חֲלֹמֹתֵ֑ינוּ אִ֥ישׁ כַּחֲלֹמ֖וֹ פָּתָֽר׃ (יג) וַיְהִ֛י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּֽתַר־לָ֖נוּ כֵּ֣ן הָיָ֑ה אֹתִ֛י הֵשִׁ֥יב עַל־כַּנִּ֖י וְאֹת֥וֹ תָלָֽה׃ (יד) וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח פַּרְעֹה֙ וַיִּקְרָ֣א אֶת־יוֹסֵ֔ף וַיְרִיצֻ֖הוּ מִן־הַבּ֑וֹר וַיְגַלַּח֙ וַיְחַלֵּ֣ף שִׂמְלֹתָ֔יו וַיָּבֹ֖א אֶל־פַּרְעֹֽה׃

(א) וַהֲוָה מִסּוֹף תַּרְתֵּין שְׁנִין וּפַרְעֹה חָלֵם וְהָא קָאֵם עַל נַהֲרָא: (ב) וְהָא מִן נַהֲרָא סָלְקָן שְׁבַע תּוֹרָן שַׁפִּירָן לְמֶחֱזֵי וּפַטִּימָן בְּשָׂר וְרָעְיָן בְּאַחֲוָה: (ג) וְהָא שְׁבַע תּוֹרָן אָחֳרָנְיָן סָלְקָן בַּתְרֵיהוֹן מִן נַהֲרָא בִּישָׁן לְמֶחֱזֵי וַחֲסִירַן בְּשָׂר וְקָמָן לְקִבְלֵיהוֹן דְּתוֹרָן עַל כֵּיף נַהֲרָא: (ד) וַאֲכָלַן תּוֹרְתָּא בִּישָׁן לְמֶחֱזֵי וַחֲסִירַן בְּשַׂר יָת שְׁבַע תּוֹרְתָּא שַׁפִּירָן לְמֶחֱזֵי וּפַטִּימָתָא וְאִתְּעַר פַּרְעֹה: (ה) וּדְמוּךְ וַחֲלַם תִּנְיָנוּת וְהָא שְׁבַע שֻׁבְּלַיָּא סָלְקָן בְּקַנְיָא חַד פַּטִּימָן וְטָבָן: (ו) וְהָא שְׁבַע שֻׁבְּלַיָּא לָקְיָן וּשְׁקִיפָן קִדּוּם צָמְחָן בַּתְרֵיהוֹן: (ז) וּבְלָעָא שֻׁבְּלַיָּא לָקְיָתָא יָת שְׁבַע שֻׁבְּלַיָּא פַּטִּימָתָא וּמָלְיָתָא וְאִתְּעַר פַּרְעֹה וְהָא חֶלְמָא: (ח) וַהֲוָה בְצַפְרָא וּמִטַּרְפָּא רוּחֵיהּ וּשְׁלַח וּקְרָא יָת כָּל חָרָשֵׁי מִצְרַיִם וְיָת כָּל חַכִּימָהָא וְאִשְׁתָּעִי פַרְעֹה לְהוֹן יָת חֶלְמֵיהּ וְלֵית דְּפָשַׁר יָתְהוֹן לְפַרְעֹה: (ט) וּמַלִּיל רַב שָׁקֵי (עִם) לְפַרְעֹה לְמֵימָר יָת סָרְחָנִי אֲנָא מַדְכַּר יוֹמָא דֵין: (י) פַּרְעֹה רְגֵז עַל עַבְדוֹהִי וִיהַב יָתִי בְּמַטְּרַת בֵּית רַב קָטוֹלַיָּא יָתִי וְיָת רַב נַחְתּוֹמֵי: (יא) וַחֲלֵמְנָא חֶלְמָא בְּלֵילְיָא חַד אֲנָא וָהוּא גְּבַר כְּפִשְׁרַן חֶלְמֵיהּ חֲלֵמְנָא: (יב) וְתַמָּן עִמָּנָא עוּלֵם עִבְרָאָה עַבְדָא לְרַב קָטוֹלַיָּא וְאִשְׁתָּעֵינָא לֵיהּ וּפָשַׁר לָנָא יָת חֶלְמָנָא גְּבַר כְּחֶלְמֵיהּ פָּשָׁר: (יג) וַהֲוָה כְּמָא דִי פָּשַׁר לָנָא כֵּן הֲוָה יָתִי אֲתֵיב עַל שִׁמּוּשִׁי וְיָתֵיהּ צְלָב: (יד) וּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה וּקְרָא יָת יוֹסֵף וְאַרְהִיטוֹהִי מִן בֵּית אֲסִירֵי וְסַפַּר וְשַׁנִּי כְסוּתֵיהּ וְעַל לְוַת פַּרְעֹה:

1. It happened at the end of two years’ time that Pharaoh dreamed and behold, he was standing by the river.[1] 2. Behold, seven cows arose from the river, handsome to see and of fat flesh. They grazed in the marsh. 3. And behold, seven other cows came up from the river behind them – ugly to look at and of thin flesh. They stood near the cows on the bank of the river. 4. The cows that were ugly to look at and of thin flesh devoured the seven cows that were handsome to see and fat. And Pharaoh awoke. 5. He fell asleep and dreamed a second time. Seven ears of grain, fat and good, growing on one stalk. 6. And behold, seven ears – substandard and beaten by the east wind – sprouted behind them. 7. The thin ears swallowed the seven fat and full ears. Pharaoh awoke and behold, it was a dream. 8. It happened in the morning that his spirit was troubled. He sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dream but none could interpret them for Pharaoh. 9. The chief wine steward spoke with Pharaoh, saying, “I (must) recall my sin[2] today. 10. Pharaoh became angry with his servants. He put me in custody in the house of the chief executioner, the chief baker with me. 11. We dreamed a dream on the same night, I and he, each man we dreamed according to the interpretation of his dream. 12. There with us was a Hebrew youth, a servant to the chief executioner. We told and he interpreted our dreams for us; each man he interpreted according his dream. 13. It happened that as he interpreted for us, so it came to pass: I was returned to my position and he was hanged.” 14. Pharaoh called and sent for Yoseif. He was rushed from the prison; his hair was cut,[3] he changed his clothes, and he came in to Pharaoh.
