Matot - Sh'vi'i

Sounds Like a Plan!

That plan pleased Moshe and he approved. He made the Tribes of Reuben and Gad promise to stick to the plan, which they did. Moshe informed Elazar and Yehoshua of the agreement, since they would be the ones to fulfill it. Moshe gave the land they conquered from Sichon and Og to Reuben, Gad and half the Tribe of Menashe. (The other half took their share by lottery in Israel proper.) As we see in Joshua chapter 13, things played out exactly as planned.

The aliyah ends by telling us about individuals from these two and a half Tribes who conquered, cleared and named cities in their new territory.
