2,679. Multiple Claimants or Multiple Claims
Hilchos Shevuos 7:10
Let’s say that five different people filed claims against the same defendant. They ask for their entrusted property and he responds, “An oath that I don’t have anything of yours!” If his oath is false, he’s only liable to bring one offering. However, if he says, “An oath that I don’t have anything of yours, or of yours, or of yours…,” then he’s liable for each one individually.
Hilchos Shevuos 7:11
Let’s say that the plaintiff demands the entrusted item, the deposit, the stolen goods and the lost item that he believes the defendant has in his possession, and the defendant responds, “An oath that I don’t have anything of yours!” If the oath is false, he’s only liable to bring one offering. Even if the value of all the claims against the defendant are collectively a prutah (a small coin), they all combine together to render him liable.
