Bikkurim 3:7-8
Bikkurim 3:7
Originally, one who could read would read the text for himself, while others would read for those who were unable to do so themselves. When those who could not read refrained from bringing their first fruits out of embarrassment, the Sages instituted that the text should be read on behalf of everyone.
Bikkurim 3:8
The wealthy would bring their first fruits in baskets of silver and gold; the poor would bring them in baskets woven from willow branches. The first fruits and the wicker baskets were given to the kohanim.
