Bikkurim 3:9-10
Bikkurim 3:9
Rabbi Shimon ben Nanas says that people could decorate their first fruits with produce other than from the seven species for which Israel is renowned. Rabbi Akiva says that one could only decorate his first fruits with produce from those seven species.
Bikkurim 3:10
Rabbi Shimon says that there are three levels of first fruits: actual first fruits, additions to first fruits, and decorations of first fruits. The additions must be of the same type of produce as the actual first fruits but the decorations may be of other types. The additions must be eaten in a state of ritual purity and they are exempt from the laws of doubtfully-tithed produce (demai); the laws of demai apply to the decorations.
