Shabbos 1:10-11
Shabbos 1:10
One may not roast meat, onions or eggs on Friday unless they will be ready before Shabbos. One may not place bread in the oven close to nightfall, nor may one place a cake to bake on coals, unless the top crust will form before Shabbos; Rabbi Eliezer says that the bottom has to form a crust before Shabbos. (There is a difference of opinion as to which side crusts first.)
Shabbos 1:11
One may lower the Pesach sacrifice into the oven close to nightfall, and they would light a fire close to nightfall in the woodpile of the Beis HaMokeid (a chamber in the Temple courtyard). Outside of the Temple, one may not light a fire unless there is still time for most of the logs in the pile to catch fire. Rabbi Yehuda says that when lighting with coal, it is sufficient if any of it catches before nightfall.
