Shabbos 8:6-7
Shabbos 8:6
Continuing with volumes for which one would incur liability if carried on Shabbos: enough bone to make a spoon, though Rabbi Yehuda says enough to make the teeth of a key; enough glass to scrape the shuttles of a loom; a pebble or stone big enough to throw at a bird (in order to drive it away), though Rabbi Eliezer bar Yaakov says large enough to throw at an animal.
Shabbos 8:7
Rabbi Yehuda says a piece of pottery big enough to fill the gap between two beams but Rabbi Meir says large enough to transfer fiery coals and Rabbi Yosi says large enough to hold a reviis of water. Rabbi Meir says that support for his position can be found in Isaiah 30:14, which refers to "a shard to take fire from the hearth." Rabbi Yosi says that is no proof because the verse continues "or to take water from a well."
