Rishon

(א) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־אַבְרָ֔ם לֶךְ־לְךָ֛ מֵאַרְצְךָ֥ וּמִמּֽוֹלַדְתְּךָ֖ וּמִבֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑יךָ אֶל־הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַרְאֶֽךָּ׃ (ב) וְאֶֽעֶשְׂךָ֙ לְג֣וֹי גָּד֔וֹל וַאֲבָ֣רֶכְךָ֔ וַאֲגַדְּלָ֖ה שְׁמֶ֑ךָ וֶהְיֵ֖ה בְּרָכָֽה׃ (ג) וַאֲבָֽרְכָה֙ מְבָ֣רְכֶ֔יךָ וּמְקַלֶּלְךָ֖ אָאֹ֑ר וְנִבְרְכ֣וּ בְךָ֔ כֹּ֖ל מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ (ד) וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ אַבְרָ֗ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֤ר אֵלָיו֙ יְהֹוָ֔ה וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ אִתּ֖וֹ ל֑וֹט וְאַבְרָ֗ם בֶּן־חָמֵ֤שׁ שָׁנִים֙ וְשִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה בְּצֵאת֖וֹ מֵחָרָֽן׃ (ה) וַיִּקַּ֣ח אַבְרָם֩ אֶת־שָׂרַ֨י אִשְׁתּ֜וֹ וְאֶת־ל֣וֹט בֶּן־אָחִ֗יו וְאֶת־כׇּל־רְכוּשָׁם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָכָ֔שׁוּ וְאֶת־הַנֶּ֖פֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר־עָשׂ֣וּ בְחָרָ֑ן וַיֵּצְא֗וּ לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ אַ֣רְצָה כְּנַ֔עַן וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ אַ֥רְצָה כְּנָֽעַן׃ (ו) וַיַּעֲבֹ֤ר אַבְרָם֙ בָּאָ֔רֶץ עַ֚ד מְק֣וֹם שְׁכֶ֔ם עַ֖ד אֵל֣וֹן מוֹרֶ֑ה וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֖י אָ֥ז בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ (ז) וַיֵּרָ֤א יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־אַבְרָ֔ם וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לְזַ֨רְעֲךָ֔ אֶתֵּ֖ן אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את וַיִּ֤בֶן שָׁם֙ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ לַיהֹוָ֖ה הַנִּרְאֶ֥ה אֵלָֽיו׃ (ח) וַיַּעְתֵּ֨ק מִשָּׁ֜ם הָהָ֗רָה מִקֶּ֛דֶם לְבֵֽית־אֵ֖ל וַיֵּ֣ט אׇהֳלֹ֑ה בֵּֽית־אֵ֤ל מִיָּם֙ וְהָעַ֣י מִקֶּ֔דֶם וַיִּֽבֶן־שָׁ֤ם מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ לַֽיהֹוָ֔ה וַיִּקְרָ֖א בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְהֹוָֽה׃ (ט) וַיִּסַּ֣ע אַבְרָ֔ם הָל֥וֹךְ וְנָס֖וֹעַ הַנֶּֽגְבָּה׃ {פ}

(א) וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְאַבְרָם אִיזֵל לָךְ מֵאַרְעָךְ וּמִיַּלָּדוּתָךְ וּמִבֵּית אֲבוּךְ לְאַרְעָא דִּי אַחֲזִנָּךְ: (ב) וְאֶעְבְּדִנָּךְ לְעַם סַגִּי וֶאֱבָרֵכִנָּךְ וַאֲרַבֵּי שְׁמָךְ וּתְהֵא מְבָרָךְ: (ג) וֶאֱבָרֵךְ מְבָרְכָךְ וּמְלַטְטָךְ אֵילוּט וְיִתְבָּרֲכוּן בְּדִילָךְ כֹּל זַרְעֲיַת אַרְעָא: (ד) וַאֲזַל אַבְרָם כְּמָא דִמַלֵּיל עִמֵּיהּ יְיָ וַאֲזַל עִמֵּיהּ לוֹט וְאַבְרָם בַּר שִׁבְעִין וַחֲמֵשׁ שְׁנִין בְּמִפְּקֵיהּ מֵחָרָן: (ה) וּדְבַר אַבְרָם יָת שָׂרַי אִתְּתֵיהּ וְיָת לוֹט בַּר אֲחוּהִי וְיָת כָּל קִנְיָנְהוֹן דִּי קְנוֹ וְיָת נַפְשָׁתָא דְּשַׁעְבִּידוּ לְאוֹרַיְתָא בְחָרָן וּנְפָקוּ לְמֵיזַל לְאַרְעָא דִכְנַעַן וַאֲתוֹ לְאַרְעָא דִכְנָעַן: (ו) וַעֲבַר אַבְרָם בְּאַרְעָא עַד אֲתַר שְׁכֶם עַד מֵישַׁר מוֹרֶה וּכְנַעֲנָאָה בְּכֵן בְּאַרְעָא: (ז) וְאִתְגְּלִי יְיָ לְאַבְרָם וַאֲמַר לִבְנָךְ אֶתֵּן יָת אַרְעָא הָדָא וּבְנָא תַמָּן מִדְבְּחָא קֳדָם יְיָ דְּאִתְגְּלִי לֵיהּ: (ח) וְאִסְתַּלַּק מִתַּמָּן לְטוּרָא מִמַּדְנַח לְבֵית אֵל וּפְרַס מַשְׁכְּנֵיהּ בֵּית אֵל מִמַּעַרְבָא וְעַי מִמָּדִינְחָא וּבְנָא תַמָּן מִדְבְּחָא קֳדָם יְיָ וְצַלִּי בִּשְׁמָא דַיְיָ: (ט) וּנְטַל אַבְרָם אָזֵל וְנָטֵל לְדָרוֹמָא:

1. Hashem said to Avram, “Leave your land, your birthplace and your father’s house for the land that I will show you. 2. I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great and you will be blessed.[1] 3. I will bless those who bless you and curse one who curses you. All the families of the earth will be blessed because of you.” 4. Avram departed as Hashem commanded him, and Lot went with him. Avram was 75 years old when he left Charan. 5. Avram took Sarai – his wife –and Lot – his brother’s son – and all the wealth that they had accumulated, and the souls they had converted to Torah in Charan,[2] and they departed to travel to the land of Canaan. They arrived in the land of Canaan. 6. Avram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the Moreh plain. The Canaanites were then in the land. 7. Hashem was revealed to Avram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” He built there an altar before Hashem, Who was revealed to him. 8. He left[3] from there to the mountains east of Bethel. He pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar before Hashem and he prayed in the Name of Hashem. 9. Avram traveled in stages towards the south.

(י) וַיְהִ֥י רָעָ֖ב בָּאָ֑רֶץ וַיֵּ֨רֶד אַבְרָ֤ם מִצְרַ֙יְמָה֙ לָג֣וּר שָׁ֔ם כִּֽי־כָבֵ֥ד הָרָעָ֖ב בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ (יא) וַיְהִ֕י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הִקְרִ֖יב לָב֣וֹא מִצְרָ֑יְמָה וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ אֶל־שָׂרַ֣י אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ הִנֵּה־נָ֣א יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֛י אִשָּׁ֥ה יְפַת־מַרְאֶ֖ה אָֽתְּ׃ (יב) וְהָיָ֗ה כִּֽי־יִרְא֤וּ אֹתָךְ֙ הַמִּצְרִ֔ים וְאָמְר֖וּ אִשְׁתּ֣וֹ זֹ֑את וְהָרְג֥וּ אֹתִ֖י וְאֹתָ֥ךְ יְחַיּֽוּ׃ (יג) אִמְרִי־נָ֖א אֲחֹ֣תִי אָ֑תְּ לְמַ֙עַן֙ יִֽיטַב־לִ֣י בַעֲבוּרֵ֔ךְ וְחָיְתָ֥ה נַפְשִׁ֖י בִּגְלָלֵֽךְ׃

(י) וַהֲוָה כַפְנָא בְּאַרְעָא וּנְחַת אַבְרָם לְמִצְרַיִם לְאִתּוֹתָבָא תַמָּן אֲרֵי תַקִּיף כַּפְנָא בְּאַרְעָא: (יא) וַהֲוָה כַּד (נ"י אַרֵי) קְרֵיב לְמֵיעַל לְמִצְרָיִם וַאֲמַר לְשָׂרַי אִתְּתֵיהּ הָא כְעַן יְדָעִית אֲרֵי אִתְּתָא שַׁפִּירַת חֵיזוּ אָתְּ: (יב) וִיהֵי כַּד יֶחֱזוּן יָתִיךְ מִצְרָאֵי וְיֵימְרוּן אִתְּתֵיהּ דָּא וְיִקְטְלוּן יָתִי וְיָתִיךְ יְקַיְמוּן:

10. There was a famine in the land. Avram went down to Egypt to dwell there because the famine was intense[4] in the land. 11. As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai, his wife, “Behold now, I know that you are a beautiful woman. 12. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife;’ they will kill me and keep you alive. 13. Now[5] say that you are my sister so that it will be good for me because of you, and so that my soul may live through your words.”
