Va'etchanan - Chamishi

Take It, Moshe!

Initially, God spoke directly to the people. The experience overwhelmed and terrified them, so they asked if Moshe could serve as their messenger for the rest of God's laws. This plan was okay with God, Who said, "If only they would always be in such awe of Me!" The people were permitted to return to their tents while Moshe remained in a state of perpetual prophecy to receive the law. (Refer to Talmud Shabbos 87a and the final aliyah of parshas Behaaloscha.)
