2,644. Eating Includes Drinking

Hilchos Shevuos 4:2

If one took an oath not to taste anything and he ate even the smallest volume of food, he’s liable.

Hilchos Shevuos 4:3

If someone takes an oath not to eat on a certain day and he drinks, he is liable because eating includes drinking. Accordingly, if he ate and drank, he is liable to just one set of lashes for intentional violation, or one sin offering for unintentional violation.
