Succah 2:8-9

Succah 2:8

Women, minors and servants are exempt from the mitzvah of succah. A child who is not dependent on his mother is obligated in succah. It once happened that Shammai’s daughter-in-law gave birth and he removed the plaster from the ceiling above her bed, placing schach over the hole for her male newborn (because he considered every male obligated regardless of age).

Succah 2:9

For the entire week, one must treat his succah as his home and his house as a temporary space. If rain falls, one may go inside when it is raining so heavily that it ruins the food. When it rains on Succos, it is comparable to a servant who comes to pour a cup for his master, only to have the master dump the pitcher over his head.
