Nazir 6:8-9

Nazir 6:8

Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel says that if a nazir brought three animals for use as his sacrifices and he did not designate them, the one that is appropriate for a sin offering (a female sheep) is used for the sin offering, the one that is appropriate for a burnt offering (a male lamb) is used for the burnt offering, and the one that is appropriate for a peace offering (a ram) is used for the peace offering. He takes the hair he shaved off his head and throws it on the fire under the pot in which the peace offering is cooked. If he shaved outside the Temple, he brings his hair to throw under the pot. All this refers to when he shaves in ritual cleanliness for completing his term. When he shaves because he was rendered ritually unclean, he does not throw the hair under the pot. Rabbi Meir says that every nazir throws his hair under the pot except for one who was rendered ritually unclean and shaved outside the Temple.

Nazir 6:9

The nazir cooks or partially cooks the peace offering, then the kohein takes the ram’s cooked shoulder, one unleavened loaf from the basket and an unleavened wafer. He places these in the nazir’s palms and waves them, after which the nazir is permitted to drink wine and to render himself ritually unclean for the deceased. Rabbi Shimon says that the nazir may drink wine and render himself ritually unclean for the deceased once the blood of one of his sacrifices has been sprinkled on the altar.
