Chamishi

(יט) וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ל֥וֹ לֶ֖מֶךְ שְׁתֵּ֣י נָשִׁ֑ים שֵׁ֤ם הָֽאַחַת֙ עָדָ֔ה וְשֵׁ֥ם הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית צִלָּֽה׃ (כ) וַתֵּ֥לֶד עָדָ֖ה אֶת־יָבָ֑ל ה֣וּא הָיָ֔ה אֲבִ֕י יֹשֵׁ֥ב אֹ֖הֶל וּמִקְנֶֽה׃ (כא) וְשֵׁ֥ם אָחִ֖יו יוּבָ֑ל ה֣וּא הָיָ֔ה אֲבִ֕י כׇּל־תֹּפֵ֥שׂ כִּנּ֖וֹר וְעוּגָֽב׃ (כב) וְצִלָּ֣ה גַם־הִ֗וא יָֽלְדָה֙ אֶת־תּ֣וּבַל קַ֔יִן לֹטֵ֕שׁ כׇּל־חֹרֵ֥שׁ נְחֹ֖שֶׁת וּבַרְזֶ֑ל וַֽאֲח֥וֹת תּֽוּבַל־קַ֖יִן נַֽעֲמָֽה׃ (כג) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לֶ֜מֶךְ לְנָשָׁ֗יו עָדָ֤ה וְצִלָּה֙ שְׁמַ֣עַן קוֹלִ֔י נְשֵׁ֣י לֶ֔מֶךְ הַאְזֵ֖נָּה אִמְרָתִ֑י כִּ֣י אִ֤ישׁ הָרַ֙גְתִּי֙ לְפִצְעִ֔י וְיֶ֖לֶד לְחַבֻּרָתִֽי׃ (כד) כִּ֥י שִׁבְעָתַ֖יִם יֻקַּם־קָ֑יִן וְלֶ֖מֶךְ שִׁבְעִ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָֽה׃ (כה) וַיֵּ֨דַע אָדָ֥ם עוֹד֙ אֶת־אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֔ן וַתִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ שֵׁ֑ת כִּ֣י שָֽׁת־לִ֤י אֱלֹהִים֙ זֶ֣רַע אַחֵ֔ר תַּ֣חַת הֶ֔בֶל כִּ֥י הֲרָג֖וֹ קָֽיִן׃ (כו) וּלְשֵׁ֤ת גַּם־הוּא֙ יֻלַּד־בֵּ֔ן וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ אֱנ֑וֹשׁ אָ֣ז הוּחַ֔ל לִקְרֹ֖א בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְהֹוָֽה׃ {ס}

(יט) וּנְסִיב לֵהּ לֶמֶךְ תַּרְתֵּין נְשִׁין שׁוּם חֲדָא עָדָה וְשׁוּם תִּנְיֵתָא צִלָּה: (כ) וִילֵידַת עָדָה יָת יָבָל הוּא הֲוָה רַבְּהוֹן דְּיָתְבֵי מַשְׁכְּנִין וּמָרֵי בְעִיר: (כא) וְשׁוּם אֲחוֹהִי יוּבָל הוּא הֲוָה רַבְּהוֹן דְּכָל דִּמְנַגֵּן עַל פּוּם נִבְלָא יָדְעֵי זְמַר כִּנּוֹרָא וְאַבּוּבָא: (כב) וְצִלָּה אַף הִיא יְלֵידַת יָת תּוּבַל קַיִן רַבְּהוֹן דְכָל דְּיָדְעֵי עִיבִידַת נְחָשָׁא וּפַרְזְלָא וַאֲחָתֵהּ דְתוּבַל קַיִן נַעֲמָה: (כג) וַאֲמַר לֶמֶךְ לִנְשׁוֹהִי עָדָה וְצִלָּה שִׁמְעַן קָלִי נְשֵׁי לֶמֶךְ אֲצֵיתָא לְמֵמְרִי לָא גַּבְרָא קְטָלִית דִּבְדִילֵהּ אֲנָא סָבִיל חוֹבִין וְאַף לָא עוּלֵימָא חַבָּלִית דִּבְדִילֵהּ יִשְׁתֵּיצֵי זַרְעִי: (כד) אֲרֵי שַׁבְעָא דָּרִין אִיתְלִאוּ לְקָיִן הֲלָא לְלֶמֶךְ בְּרֵהּ שַׁבְעִין וְשַׁבְעָא: (כה) וִידַע אָדָם עוֹד יָת אִתְּתֵהּ וִילֵידַת בַּר וּקְרַת יָת שְׁמֵהּ שֵׁת אֲרֵי אַמָרַת יְהַב לִי יְיָ בַּר אוֹחֲרָן חֲלַף הֶבֶל דִּקַטְלֵהּ קָיִן: (כו) וּלְשֵׁת אַף הוּא אִתְיְלִיד בַּר וּקְרָא יָת שְׁמֵהּ אֱנוֹשׁ בְּכֵן בְּיוֹמוֹהִי חָלוּ בְנֵי אֱנָשָׁא מִלְּצַלָּאָה בִּשְׁמָא דַּיְיָ:

19. Lemech took two wives for himself. The name of one was Adah and the name of the other was Tzilah. 20. Adah gave birth to Yaval; he was the chief of those who dwell in tents and are masters of herds. 21. His brother’s name was Yuval; he was the chief of all those who play the lyre and know music on the harp and flute. 22. Tzilah also gave birth, to Tuval-Kayin, who chief of all who know how to work copper and iron. Tuval-Kayin’s sister was Naamah. 23. Lemech said to his wives, Adah and Tzilah, “Hear my voice, wives of Lemech; listen to my speech. I didn’t kill a man for whom I should be guilty, nor did I wound a boy for whom my descendants should be eradicated. 24. If vengeance for Kayin was suspended for seven generations, then for his descendant Lamech it will be 77 generations.”[1] 25. Adam knew his wife again. She delivered a son and named him Shais, because “Hashem has provided me with another child in lieu of Hevel, because Kayin killed him.” 26. Seth also fathered a son and he named him Enosh. It was in his days that people became indifferent about praying in the name of Hashem.[2]

[1] As opposed to “If sevenfold vengeance would be taken for Kayin (who killed intentionally), then 77-fold vengeance should be taken for Lemech (who killed accidentally).”

[2] The Chumash says “began to call in the name of God,” which is understood as a euphemism for the start of idolatry.
