Vayeilech - R'vi'i

The Gathering

Moshe told the kohanim that in the first year of every Sabbatical cycle, on the holiday of Succos, when everyone comes to Jerusalem, the king was to read publicly from the Torah. Everyone should hear it: men, women, children, converts. This will inspire them to keep the Torah - especially the kids. (This mitzvah is called hakhel, “the gathering.” You can read all about it in Talmud Sotah 41a-b.)
