Ha'azinu - Sh'vi'i

Go Up, Moses

Moshe and his successor Yehoshua taught the people this song. Moshe then charged the people to pay attention to his words so that they could teach them to their children. The Torah is their very life and it alone will enable them to endure in their land.

That day, God told Moshe to ascend Mount N'vo in Moab, from where he could see the land of Israel. There he would expire and be buried, just as Aharon had been on Mount Hor. The reason Moshe was not being permitted to enter the land was because of the way he failed to sanctify God in parshas Chukas (Numbers chapter 20).
