We may not add to the list of conditions that make an animal a treifa because the Sages of the earlier generations knew that a domesticated or wild animal or a bird could survive anything else that might happen. This is the halacha even if veterinary knowledge says that it won’t survive.

Hilchos Shechita 10:13

The same is true regarding the conditions that the Sages said render an animal a treifa: even if veterinary knowledge says that some of these conditions won’t prove fatal and an animal may survive, we still follow what the Torah says, as per Deuteronomy 17:11, “According to the law as they shall teach you.”
