2,551. Pustules on the Lung

Hilchos Shechita 7:10

Regarding pustules that are found on a lung, if they’re filled with air, with clear water, with a liquid that’s thick like honey or with a dried liquid that’s hard like a stone, the animal is permitted. If the liquid is rancid or the water is murky, the animal is a treifa. When removing the liquid to examine it, one must also examine the bronchiole under it. If it’s punctured, the animal is a treifa.

Hilchos Shechita 7:11

If one finds two pustules on a lung near one another, the animal’s a treifa because of the likelihood that there’s a hole in between them and no way to check for it. If there’s one pustule that looks like two, one of them should be punctured. If its contents flow into the other pustule, they are only one and the animal is permitted; if such is not the case, the animal’s a treifa.
