2,510. Cut, Pause, Repeat
Hilchos Shechita 3:4
Let’s say that someone cuts the signs for a bit, pauses a bit, cuts a bit, then waits a bit before completing the slaughter. He never paused a disqualifying length of time all at once but cumulatively he paused more than the length of a disqualifying delay. In such a case, there’s a doubt as to whether or not the animal is a neveila. Similarly, if one paused the length of time it takes to pick up the animal, make it lie down and cut only part of the signs but not long enough to slaughter the animal completely, there’s a doubt as to whether the animal is a neveila or not.
Hilchos Shechita 3:5
If someone cut the majority of one sign in a bird or of both signs in an animal, the slaughter is permitted even if he paused for half the day and then returned to finish cutting the signs. Since the required minimum for slaughter has already been met, it’s like he’s cutting slaughtered meat.
