2,502. Does Shechitah Require Intention?
Hilchos Shechita 2:10
If two people hold a knife together and slaughter together, the slaughter is valid, even if each is holding an opposite side of the knife. Similarly, if two people hold two knives and they slaughter simultaneously in two different spots on the neck, the slaughter is valid; this is so even if one cut just the esophagus – or most of it – and the other cut just the trachea – or most of it – in a different spot. Similarly, slaughter in a reed shape or a comb-like pattern is valid.
Hilchos Shechita 2:11
The slaughter of secular animals doesn’t require intention. If one slaughtered an animal while waving a knife around or as a joke, or if he threw a knife into a wall and it slaughtered an animal as it passed by, so long as it slaughtered in the right spot and in the right measure, the slaughter is valid.
