2,481. Not to Eat Disgusting Things

Maachalos Assuros 17:29

The Sages prohibited food and drink that most people find disgusting, such as if they contain vomit, excrement, etc. They likewise prohibited eating and drinking from utensils that are so dirty they would make a person swoon, like a chamber pot, the glass utensils used to let blood, etc.

Maachalos Assuros 17:30

The Sages similarly prohibited eating with dirty hands and utensils. All of these things fall under the prohibition of making our souls detestable (Leviticus 11:43). One who eats such things is given stripes for acting rebelliously.
