2,466. Wine That Falls on Wheat or Into Vinegar
Maachalos Assuros 16:34
If wine that was poured as a libation falls onto wheat, it may not be eaten but benefit is permitted. It may not be sold to a non-Jew out of concern that he might sell it to another Jew. Here’s how one should proceed: grind the wheat into flour, make bread, and sell it to a non-Jew not in the presence of another Jew. A Jew won’t buy such bread from a non-Jew because non-Jewish bread is prohibited as we shall see, IY”H. The reason we don’t test the wheat for the taste of wine is because wheat absorbs the wine within it (rendering the taste undetectable).
Maachalos Assuros 16:35
If wine that had been poured as a libation turns to vinegar and falls into vinegar that came from beer, even the smallest volume renders it prohibited because they are considered to be of the same kind, i.e., vinegar. If wine gets mixed with vinegar, whether vinegar falls into wine or vice versa, we test to see if the forbidden liquid has imparted flavor.
