2,459. Nullifying the Dye in a Garment

Maachalos Assuros 16:20

If a garment was dyed using orlah shells, it must be burned. If it got mixed with other garments, it can be nullified in the ratio of 201:1. Similarly, if a dish was cooked or a loaf was baked using shells from orlah or the mixed species of a vineyard as fuel, the dish or the loaf must be burned because the benefit derived from the prohibition is apparent. If the dish or the loaf got mixed with others, it can be nullified in the ratio of 201:1.

Maachalos Assuros 16:21

Similarly, if a garment has woven into it two thumb-widths that were dyed using orlah and they can’t be identified, they can be nullified in 201 times their volume. If a powdered dye of orlah got mixed with a permitted powdered dye, it is also nullified in 201 times its volume. If a liquid dye of orlah got mixed with a permitted liquid dye, it’s nullified in a simple majority.
