2,458. Orlah Can Nullify Trumah
Maachalos Assuros 16:18
Similar to the previous halacha, orlah and the mixed species of a vineyard can nullify trumah as follows: if 100 seah of orlah or mixed species of a vineyard fell into 20,000 seah of regular produce, the resulting mixture is 20,100 seah. If a seah of trumah then fell into each 100 seah, the mixture is permitted because the trumah is nullified in 101 times its volume. This is so even though part of the 100 seah that nullifies the trumah is orlah or mixed species.
Maachalos Assuros 16:19
Similarly, orlah can nullify the mixed species of a vineyard and vice versa. Not only that, the mixed species of a vineyard can nullify the mixed species of a vineyard and orlah can nullify orlah, as follows: let’s say that 200 seah of orlah or of mixed species fell into 40,000 seah of regular produce. If a seah of orlah or of mixed species then fell into each 200 seah of orlah or mixed species, the whole thing is permitted. Since the prohibited thing that fell in first was nullified, the whole thing is considered regular produce, and permitted.
