2,434. Different Volumes for Nullification

Let’s say that fat from the kidneys falls into fat from the fat tail and the whole thing melts together. If there’s twice as much fat from the tail as from the kidneys, then the mixture is permitted under Biblical law. Even if a piece of a neveila gets mixed with two pieces of meat from a properly slaughtered animal, it’s all permitted under Biblical law. Under rabbinic law, however, it’s all prohibited until the forbidden thing is nullified because of its small percentage, which makes it so insignificant that it’s as if it’s not even there, as we shall discuss.

The Sages specified a measure for each prohibited thing in order to for it be considered nullified because of its small percentage. Some things are nullified by 60 times their size, some by 100 times their size, and some by 200 times their size.
