  • Taking someone before their allotted time has passed

The Gemara on Daf 4b brings the story of the Malach Hamaves sending one of his agents to bring a certain woman, which Rashi explains to mean that he should take her life, and the agent brought the wrong woman. When the agent asked whether he should return the woman to life, the Malach HaMaves said that since she was already brought, he should “let her be counted among the dead”. On this Daf, Rav Bivi bar Abaye asked the Malach HaMaves if he has permission to do so, and the Malach HaMaves responded, is it not written, "ויש נספה בלא משפט" – There is one who succumbs without justification. Rav Bivi asked, but it is written, "דור הולך ודור בא" – A generation goes and a generation comes, which implies that each generation has its time before it is replaced? The Malach explained that he takes the neshamas along with him, which Rashi explains means, that they roam the world with him, until they have completed the generation, and only then are they delivered to Dumah, who is the malach that is the keeper of the dead. When asked what the malach does with the person’s remaining years, he answered that if there is a young Rabbinical student דמעביר במיליה – that is a forgiving person, the years are added onto his life.

  • Hashem recounts one’s words at the time of his death

Rebbe Illa was once going up the stairs in Rabbah bar Shila’s house and he heard a young child reading the following passuk: "כי הנה יוצר הרים וברא רוח ומגיד לאדם מה שיחו" – Behold, He forms mountains and creates winds; and He recounts to a person what were his words. Rebbe I’lla said: עבד שרבו מגיד לו מה שיחו תקנה יש לו – An eved whose master tells him what his words were, is there any remedy for him? What is the meaning of "מה שחו" – what were his words? Rav said: אפילו שיחה יתירה שבין איש לאשתו מגידים לו לאדם בשעת מיתה – Even the extra conversation between a man and his wife is recounted to a person at the time of his death.

  • שלשה הקדוש ברוך הוא בוכה עליהן בכל יום

It was taught in a Baraisa: שלשה הקדוש ברוך הוא בוכה עליהן בכל יום – Hakadosh Boruch Hu weeps for three types of people every day: על שאפשר לעסוק בתורה ואינו עוסק – Over one who is able to be involved in learning Torah but does not, ועל שאי אפשר לעסוק בתורה ועוסק – And over one who is not able to be involved in learning Torah, but does , ועל פרנס המתגאה על הצבור – and over a community leader who behaves arrogantly towards the community.
