Ben Azzai said that we should run to perform a small mitzvah like we would a great one and we should flee from a sin because one mitzvah leads to another mitzvah and one sin leads to another sin. This is because the reward of a mitzvah is the opportunity to perform another mitzvah and the payback for a sin is the temptation to perform another sin.

Ben Azzai used to say not to despise any person and not to be dismissive of any thing because every person has his hour and every thing has its place.
