Avos 5:4-5

Avos 5:4

Ten miracles were performed for our ancestors in Egypt and ten more at the Red Sea. God brought ten plagues upon the Egyptians in Egypt and ten more at the Red Sea. Our ancestors tried God’s patience ten times in the wilderness as per Numbers 14:22, “You have tried Me these ten times and have not listened to My voice.”

Avos 5:5

Ten miracles were performed for our ancestors in the Temple: no woman ever miscarried from the smell of the sacrifices; the sacrifices never rotted; a fly was never seen in the slaughterhouse; the Kohein Gadol never suffered a seminal emission on Yom Kippur; rain never extinguished the fire on the altar; the wind never blew the column of smoke from rising vertically; a disqualifying defect was never found in the omer of barley, the two loaves of Shavuos, or the showbread; the people stood packed together but were able to prostrate themselves with space; no snake or scorpion ever injured anyone in Jerusalem; no one was ever unable to find a place to stay in Jerusalem.
