Parah 3:8-9

Parah 3:8

The elders laid their hands on the kohein and said, “Sir Kohein Gadol, immerse once.” He went down, immersed, then came up and dried himself. Different kinds of wood were arranged there: cedar, pine, spruce and the wood of smooth fig trees. They formed it into a kind of tower with open windows, facing west.

Parah 3:9

They bound the cow with a rope of magag reeds and placed it on the pile with its head facing south and its face turned towards the west. The kohein stood in the east facing west. He slaughtered the cow with his right hand and received the blood with his left hand; Rabbi Yehudah says that he received the blood with his right hand and put it into his left hand. The kohein sprinkled the blood with his right. He dipped and sprinkled seven times towards the Holy of Holies, dipping for each sprinkling. When he finished sprinkling, he wiped his hand on the body of the cow, came down from the pile and lit the fire with wood chips; Rabbi Akiva says that he lit with palm branches.
