1,805. Can an Agent's Agent Also Accept an Object When Delivering a Get?

Hilchos Geirushin 9:35

If a man tells an agent to bring a get to his wife, the agent can send it with someone else if he falls ill or is prevented by other circumstances beyond his control. This is regardless of whether the husband told the agent “Bring it” or “You bring it.” However, if the man told the agent to take some item from the woman and give her the get, then the agent shouldn’t send it with another person. If he did send it with someone else and the woman came out to greet that person, giving him the object in question, after which he gives her the get, then divorce is effected.

Hilchos Geirushin 9:36

If either the original agent or his replacement gave the woman the get first, only after which she gave him the object, then divorce is not effected. This is because the agent disobeyed the man’s instructions in a matter that would commonly cause people to object, i.e., the man told him to get the object first and only then deliver the get but the agent delivered the get before receiving the item.
