4,159. Transmitting Status

Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 8:15

Utensils of dung, stone or unfired clay need not be washed and rinsed even if sin-offering meat was cooked in them; they need only be cleansed. Regarding sin offerings, Leviticus 6:20 says, “Anything that touches its meat will be sanctified,” meaning that it acquires the same status. If the meat was disqualified, whatever touches it is rendered disqualified. If it’s fit, whatever touches it is eaten in the same manner and in the same degree of sanctity.

Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 8:16

The preceding halacha applies when the taste of the meat is absorbed by the other item; if they simply touched but its flavor was not transmitted, it doesn’t render the other object sanctified. This applies both to sin offerings and to other offerings, both of lesser sanctity and of higher sanctity, as per Leviticus 7:37: “This is the law of the burnt offering, the flour offering....”
