4,138. Removing the Tail

Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 6:8

He comes to the neck and leaves two ribs on either side. He removes it and gives it to another kohein with the windpipe, heart and lungs attached. He moves on to the left side, where he leaves two soft ribs above and two soft ribs below, as he did on the other side. We see that he left four ribs on each of the two sides. He cuts it off and gives it to still another kohein with the spine and the spleen attached.

Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 6:9

When he gets to the tail, he cuts it off and gives it to another kohein along with the fat tail, the lobe of the liver and the two kidneys. He takes the left hindleg and gives it to yet another kohein. This is the order of skinning and cutting up a burnt offering animal, and these pieces are those referred to in Leviticus 1:6: “You shall cut it into its pieces.”
