4,137. Washing the Innards
Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 6:6
The kohein who received the innards goes and rinses them with water, as per Leviticus 1:13: “The innards and the feet shall be washed with water” – not with wine, nor wine diluted with water, nor any other liquid, but any type of water is fit. The stomach is washed in the washing chamber as much as is deemed necessary. The intestines are washed no fewer than three times. These were washed on the marble table between the pillars.
Hilchos Maasei Hakarbanos 6:7
He then takes the knife and separates the lung and the lobe from the liver, without moving the liver from its place. He empties the chest and gives it to another kohein. He then cuts up the right side and goes down along the spine, but he doesn’t touch the spine itself until he gets to the two soft ribs. He removes the right side and gives it to another kohein with the liver attached.
