4,030. Blemishes of the Eyelids and Eyes

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 8:5

There are four blemishes of the eyelids: (1) a complete lack of eyelashes; (2) very thick eyelashes; (3) eyelids that have lashes that are different from one another, either in color or in thickness; (4) eyelids that are squinty and don’t open wide like those of other people.

Hilchos Bias HaMikdash 8:6

There are eleven blemishes of the eyes: (1) the eyes being higher than they should be, near the forehead; (2) eyes that are lower than they should be; (3) eyes that are round rather than oblong; (4) eyes that “pop” like those of a tiger or of someone enraged; (5) eyes that are very large, like a calf’s eyes; (6) eyes that are small, like a duck’s eyes; (7) one whose eyes are always tearing; (8) having fluid dripping from the inside of the eyes near the nose, or from the outside of the eyes near the temples; (9) one who has to squint a little when he sees light or when he wants to look at something closely; (10) one who is so cross-eyed that he sees two floors of a building appear to be one floor. This condition can be determined when he’s speaking with one person but it looks like he’s speaking with someone else; (11) eyes that are different from one another, either in location, color or size. Any difference between them is a disqualification.
