3,937. Services Without Maamados

Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 6:8

For all eight days of Chanukah, the members of the maamad didn’t hold a maamad at Shacharis. On any day when Musaf was davened, there was no maamad during the special second service or at Mincha; there were only maamados at Shacharis and Ne’ilah. On any day when there was a wood offering, there was no maamad at Ne’ilah service, only at Shacharis, the special second service and Mincha.

Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 6:9

What’s a wood offering? Certain families had scheduled times to go into forests and get wood for the woodpile of the altar. On a family’s assigned day, they would bring freewill burnt offerings; these were referred to as wood offerings. This was like a holiday for these families and it was prohibited for them to eulogize, fast or perform acts of labor.
