3,907. Carrying the Aron
Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 2:11
The incense is offered daily on the golden altar in the Heichal. Nothing else is offered on this altar. If someone offered any other incense, or if he offered this incense but it was privately (as opposed to communally) donated, or if one offered a sacrifice or poured a libation on it, he is subject to the penalty of lashes. This is as per Exodus 30:9: “You may not offer strange incense, a burnt offering or a flour offering on it.”
Hilchos Klei HaMikdash 2:12
When the Aron is transported from one location to another, it may not be brought on an animal or on a wagon. Rather, it must be carried on a person’s shoulders. When David forgot this and transported the Aron on a wagon, God’s anger struck Uzzah. The obligation to carry it on human shoulders is as per Numbers 7:9: “This holy labor is upon them; they shall carry it on their shoulders.”
