3,765. Mixing Shemittah and Non-Shemittah Produce

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:21

If someone steeps a shemittah rose in sixth-year oil, he may take the rose out and use the oil in the regular way. If one steeps a rose in eighth-year oil, he must remove the oil (referring to the obligation of biyur). The reason is because by now the rose has already become obligated in removal.

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:22

If shemittah carobs were steeped in sixth-year or eighth-year wine, the wine must be removed because it absorbed the taste of shemittah produce. The general rule is that if shemittah produce gets mixed with other produce of the same type, then even the smallest amount renders the whole mixture like shemittah produce. If shemittah produce gets mixed with other types of produce, the final disposition depends on whether or not the shemittah produce has imparted its taste.
