3,758. Removing Money Received for Shemittah Produce

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:7

Just like one must remove shemittah produce, one must likewise remove money that was received in exchange for shemittah produce. For example, let’s say that someone sold shemittah pomegranates and used the money to buy food. If there aren’t any pomegranates on the trees in the field anymore, but he still has the money he received for selling pomegranates, he must get rid of it.

Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:8

One gets rid of the money as follows: He should use the money to buy food and give three meals’ worth to everyone he wishes. If he doesn’t find enough people to eat it all, he must throw the money into the sea.
