3,757. A Tree That Produces Fruit Twice a Year
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:5
Let’s say that a tree produces fruit twice a year and a person still has fruit from the first crop. In such a case, one may continue to eat that fruit so long as the second crop is still in the field. This is because the requirement is that this type of fruit still be available in the field, which is in fact the case. However, one may not keep eating on account of fruit that will grow in the fall. That’s because the latter is like the produce of a different year.
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 7:6
Let’s say that someone pickles three types of produce in the same barrel. If one of these species is no longer found in the field, it must be removed from the barrel. If he already started eating the pickled produce, the whole thing is considered as if it was already removed. Just like we must remove produce that was gathered for people, we must also remove animal feed from the house; one may not feed an animal a type of produce that is no longer found in the field.
