1,187. Wages Due

180:11 The wages owed a hired worker are not canceled by the sabbatical year. If he considers it a debt, it is canceled.

180:12 Something that comes from the efforts of a non-Jew is treated like the non-Jew.  Therefore, if one bought the promissory note of a Jew from a non-Jew, this debt isn't canceled by the sabbatical year. This is because the non-Jew could collect on this note forever. Similarly, if one a guaranteed a loan to a non-Jew for money he lent to a Jew, if the Jew didn't pay back and the guarantor must repay the loan,  when he receives the promissory note from the non-Jew, the note isn't canceled by the sabbatical year.  However, if there was no promissory note and he tried to collect based solely on an oral commitment, then the original borrower is exempt from repaying.
